Memories - Australia

Hello Eric,

I am so pleased I found your site. I travelled to Bangkok many times when I was younger and it still has a special place in my heart.

My daughter went there on her way to Europe earlier this year and she too, fell in love with the people, the place and of course the food.

Your most recent e-zine focus on the fishing community. Is that a place worthy to spend a few days at and maybe go out on a fishing boat, and are there good facilities for us farangs?

Thank you

Samut Sakhon

Hello Mick,

Thank you for visiting Tour Bangkok Legacies and for reading the Bangkok Travelbug.

Most of the hotels in Samut Sakhon are on the Mahachai side of the river (east bank). Here’s a link to some of these hotels. For your convenience please choose one that’s within Tambon Mahachai, Amphoe Mueang (Mahachai sub-district, city district). These hotels are near the ferry point.

The Wiang Thai and Suk Chai are near the railway track about 500 m from the Mahachai train station, so it can be noisy when the trains pass.

The Mahachai Cutter House Hotel about 800 m north of the train station is another possibility. The hotel is near two mission schools and the Mahachai Church.

I’ve never stayed in Samut Sakhon. Only took a day trip from Bangkok in the morning and returned in the afternoon.

You can hire boats to take you out fishing. You’ll need to negotiate the price. I’m not a fisherman though, so can’t help much in this area.

Hope you have a good stay and happy fishing.
